Flavors and style
Jiri Batra's 2021 Blaufränkisch is a lively, clear red wine with personality. Ripe cherries, black pepper, dried herbs, and a subtle smokiness intertwine on the nose. On the palate, it is straightforward, juicy, and balanced, with fresh acidity and well-integrated tannins. A Blaufränkisch with structure that reveals itself without being loud—calm yet expressive.
Origin and development
The vines are planted in the Czech Republic on calcareous soils and are farmed organically. Harvesting is done by hand, and the cellar is kept to a natural standard: spontaneous fermentation, no fining, no filtration, and minimal sulfur use. The wine matures in used wooden barrels, which lend it backbone but don't overwhelm the grape variety—an authentic expression of its origins.
Fits
A versatile partner for stir-fried dishes, hearty lentil dishes, mushroom stir-fries, or spicy pasta creations. It also pairs well with umami-rich dishes such as soy marinades, miso, or fermented flavors—whenever freshness and clarity are required.
Contains sulfites.
