Flavors and style

Oklai Jekuše is a purist natural wine based on Merlot – powerful yet not heavy. The nose reveals dark forest berries, ripe plums, Mediterranean herbs, and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it's juicy and precise – with fine-grained tannins, a fresh acidity, and a salty minerality. A wine with a distinctive character: clear, unvarnished, and uncompromising in its expression.

Terroir and cellar work

The grapes come from small, naturally cultivated plots around Oklaj in the Dalmatian hinterland. The region is characterized by calcareous clay soils, continental freshness, and Mediterranean sunshine—ideal conditions for a deep Merlot. After 4–5 days of maceration, spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel. The wine is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and with minimal sulfur—artisanal, natural, and full of heritage.

Fits

Ideal with savory dishes: lamb with rosemary, grilled vegetables, ratatouille, mushroom risotto, or mature hard cheese. It also makes an exciting accompaniment to stews with oriental spices or a tomato base.
